21 September

We raised £52 for Loros with the raffle in June.

19 October

There was only one item for the show and tell - one of Bob's sideways knitted jumpers - and only because he forgot to post it!

Bob's jumper

Sheila did a lovely demonstration of how to do a professional neckline on the knitting machine. This is the method where you knit some stocking stitch, then create a hem, then knit some more stocking stitch, and the stocking stitch part is used to enclose a cut and sewn edge. It was quite fiddly but it looked lovely when it was finished! Sorry Sheila, I realised last night that I did not get a picture of your lovely sample.

UPDATE: There has been a reduction of the competition categories, and they will now be as follows:

    Machine Knitting:
  1. Adult sweaters
  2. Adult cardigans
  3. Children's items
  4. Miscellaneous
    Other yarn crafts:
  1. Adult sweaters
  2. Adult cardigans
  3. Children's items
  4. Miscellaneous

29 October

We had a good two days at the Big Textile show in Oadby, and had lots of interest. On the Saturday we made lots of poppies for a centenary event next year.

21 December

We had our annual Christmas pot-luck buffet, alongside the annual competition. The winners were as follows:

Thelma - seamless top down sweater (handknit)

Jenny - crochet jumper

Jane - CSM socks (overall winner)

Jane - "Kate" short-row shawl with ruffles (machknit)

Pictures in the gallery.

January 18th

We had some lovely show and tell entries - definitely a sock theme tonight!

Show and tell

Bob awarded the overall prize to Jane for her winning competition entries last month. They're both giggling as Jane is usually the photographer and it took a while to get a shot.

Prize giving

Sheila very kindly demonstrated motif knitting. The machine decided it wanted to add some impromptu lace (aka dropped stitches).

Dates for your diaries:

There is going to be another "Heart of England" meetup on Saturday June 30th, this time for a whole day, in Crick. Please contact Jane for further information.

A short note of thanks!
"We were thrilled to receive the beautiful poppies created by the Manor House Machine Knitters (now Leicestershire MK) in Leicester. As far as we know, these are the first poppies that have been donated having been made on a machine, so they are very special. Please will you pass on our most grateful thanks? The support that we are receiving is tremendous – we already have well in excess of 6,000 poppies, and they have come from all corners of the globe. I do hope that, in the autumn, you and your fellow knitters will be able to come to Warwick and see our display. It will be open between 6th October and 7th December.
Best wishes,
Helen, on behalf of Warwick Poppies 2018".

22 February

Sheila very kindly gave us lots of patterns with unusual collars to look at, and then demonstrated a racked rib edging from one of the Iris Bishop books. Jane demonstrated how to do mock rib for one of our younger members.

22 March

Jane very kindly shared samples of several kinds of pockets, and demonstrated a vertical pocket and a "kangaroo" pocket on the machine. Everyone was somewhat distracted by a large donation of coned yarn! :)

Two kinds of pockets!

6th July

Please note workshop is now 15th August not 1st August. This will also be a committee meeting.

19th July

Scarf competition

Many thanks to all who attended the end of year party last night. We raised £25 for Loros, and there were lots of lovely entries in the scarf competition. I had some chuckles from my other half when I said I was knitting a scarf in 28 degree heat!

1st August

Joy wins the GMK award

I am sorry to report that longstanding member Joy Scott lost her battle with cancer today. She was a lively member of our club and had been both chairman and secretary in the past. She was a Passap expert but also had a Brother machine and loved creating beaded jewellery, which she often wore to meetings. She will be greatly missed.

The funeral will be held at Countesthorpe on Thursday 23rd August 2018 at 3:00pm.

Where we meet:
